How Can Your Business Achieve Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production?
Updated: Nov 4, 2018

Over the coming weeks, we are celebrating the benefits of the Global Goals in understanding how your business can commit to sustainability. Today, we look at Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production.
Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production aims to ensure patterns of consumption and production which do not do damage to the economy, our society or our environment.
Steps taken towards the achievement of Goal 12 in business will heavily differ from industry to industry. For example, companies in the food industry will have to play close attention to Target 12.3: By 2030, halve per capita global food waste at the retail and consumer levels and reduce food losses along production and supply chains, including post-harvest losses.
To get you started, let's look at a list of ways in which most businesses can take specific steps towards achieving Goal 12:
Minimise or eradicate non-renewable resources from the supply chain
Reduce the use of harmful chemicals
Dispose of any chemicals, including cleaning products, safely and appropriately
Reduce waste generation
Recycle
Adopt a sustainable procurement policy
Target 12.6 focuses on encouraging companies to adopt sustainable practices and to integrate sustainability information into their reporting cycle. This is incredibly important for organisations to do as well as it ensures accountability and transparency.
Of course, if your organisation is particularly passionate about ensuring achieving sustainable production patterns around the world, you can donate profits towards organisations working to tackle these targets sustainably.
