How Can Your Business Achieve Goal 17: Partnerships for the Goals?

Updated: Nov 4, 2018

This is our final week of our series on the benefits of the Global Goals in understanding how your business can commit to sustainability. Today, we look at Goal 17: Partnerships for the Goals.

Goal 17: Partnerships for the Goals aims to ensure all levels of society are working together to achieve economic, social and environmental sustainability across the globe.

Goal 17 includes 19 individual targets, which are separated into five main headings: finance, technology, capacity-building, trade and systemic issues. Systemic issues is then broken down into three sub-headings: policy and institutional coherence, multi-stakeholder partnerships and data, monitoring and accountability.

Let's first look at technology. Technology is seen both as a blessing and a curse, and we have touched on the need for a technological revolution in a previous article. The Global Goals require a 'business as unusual' approach, and therefore, innovation is required to see their achievement by 2030. The first place we look when it comes to innovation is to the marvel of technology. At Strategic Sustainability Consultants, we encourage all our clients to explore ways in which they might be able to contribute to the social entrepreneurial revolution by coming up with a new technology to further progress towards the Global Goals.

The next big area for business is through multi-stakeholder partnerships. We have previously discussed how corporates can work with government to achieve sustainability; however, multi-stakeholder partnerships look at more than just public-private partnerships (PPPs) and look at how organisations at all levels can work with other organisations towards creating a sustainable future. This includes NGOs, community organisations and educational institutions, just to name a few.

Another way of committing to the achievement of Goal 17 is through donating company profits to charities working towards the Global Goals.
