How Can Your Business Achieve Goal 2: Zero Hunger?

Updated: Nov 4, 2018

Over the coming weeks, we are celebrating the benefits of the Global Goals in understanding how your business can commit to sustainability. Today, we look at Goal 2: Zero Hunger.

Goal 2: Zero Hunger aims to end hunger and malnutrition as well as double agricultural production of small-scale farmers and ensure sustainable agricultural practices by 2030. There are number of ways in which your organisation can engage in practices to improve nutrition, and the first place to start is in the workplace.

One great method of raising awareness of healthy eating in the workplace is through a healthy eating policy. To develop your own healthy eating policy, contact the team at Strategic Sustainability Consultants today!

Other ideas include the following:

  • implementing a staff wellness program

  • promote relevant information about health eating

  • ensure all catered functions include healthy options for staff

  • replace unhealthy snacks in vending machines for healthy alternatives

  • if space permits, start a small vegetable garden for staff to enjoy fresh vegetables during lunch and breaks

Healthier staff with improved nutrition will have more energy, work at a higher rate of prouctivity, experience an elevated mood and be able to think more clearly and, therefore, will be able to contribute more in the workplace.

Another important aspect of Goal 2 is increased agricultural production of small-scale farmers. Many catering companies will commit to sourcing local produce wherever possible. By using these companies, you will be committing to Goal 2 through the supply chain.

Of course, if your organisation is particularly passionate about improving nutrition and ending hunger, you can donate profits towards organisations working tackle these targets sustainably.
