After Labor’s victory in the WA election over the weekend, we took the opportunity to analyse Premier Mark McGowan’s campaign launch speech in February of this year to see how Labor has committed to the Global Goals.
Goal 3: Good Health and Well-Being
“We will build many hotels to free up crucial hospital beds.”
This addresses all associated targets of Goal 3.
“We have a plan to put education assistance back in the classroom.”
This addresses all associated targets of Goal 4.
Goal 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth
“We need investment in our young people.”
This addresses Target 8.6: By 2020, substantially reduce the proportion of youth not in employment, education or training.
Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities
“METRONET will be built.”
This addresses Target 11.2: By 2030, provide access to safe, affordable, accessible and sustainable transport systems for all, improving road safety, notably by expanding public transport, with special attention to the needs of those in vulnerable situations, women, children, persons with disabilities and older persons.
We look forward to seeing further commitment from Mark McGowan and the Labor government over the course of the next four years.
