What Australia's Commitment to the Global Goals Means for the Indo-Pacific Region

The other day, we provided a quick overview of what the domestic achievement of the goals means for Australia. Now, we’re taking a look at what our commitment to the goals means for our neighbours in the Indo-Pacific region.
End extreme poverty
Halve relative poverty
Ensure sustainable social protection systems, such as welfare, which aim to build resilience and empower people to lift themselves out of poverty
Ensure all people have equal rights and access to economic resources
Mobilise resources from a variety of sources to provide means for developing countries to implement policies and programmes to end poverty

Double agricultural productivity and ensure its sustainability
Maintain the genetic diversity of seeds, plants and farmed and domesticated animals
Increase investment in rural infrastructure, agricultural research, technology development and gene banks to enhance agricultural productivity in developing countries

Reduce the global maternal mortality ratio

Achieve universal health coverage and ensure universal access to sexual and reproductive health-care services

Strengthen the implementation of the World Health Organisation Framework Convention on Tobacco Control
Support research and development of vaccines and medicines most affecting developing countries
Increase health financing and the recruitment, development, training and retention of healthcare workers in developing countries
Strengthen the capacity of developing countries for early warning, risk reduction and management of health risks
Ensure all girls and boys have equal access to a free and quality primary and secondary education
Ensure all girls and boys have access to quality early childhood development
Ensure equal access to affordable technical, vocational and tertiary education
Increase the number of youth and adults who have relevant skills for employment
Eliminate discrimination based on gender, disability, indigenous status and / or economic status in education
Ensure a substantial proportion of people achieve literacy and numeracy
Ensure everyone has access to knowledge and skills-training needed for a sustainable future
Upgrade education facilities to be child, disability and gender sensitive and to provide safe, inclusive and effective learning environments for all
Expand the number of scholarships available to developing countries
Increase the supply of qualified teachers in developing countries

Eliminate all harmful practices such as child, early and forced marriage and female genital mutilation
Recognise and value unpaid care and domestic work through the provision of public services, infrastructure and social protection policies
