Yesterday, I had such an awesome experience here in New York!
With the team from Project Everyone, I headed to Times Square. Tourists milled around, the lights shone and the billboards flashed – even in the broadness of daylight.
Standing with women from all over the world who had come to New York for UNGA, we waited with anticipation.
Larsen and Taylor, two of the young dancers from the #WhatIReallyReallyWant video released earlier this year, started warming up.
Then we heard it – the sound familiar to many people who partied through the 90s – the Spice Girls’ Wannabe coming loud and clear through a sound system set-up on an open-roof double-decker bus.
Larsen and Taylor began dancing, showing us exactly what they’re made of – pure talent!
We all boarded the bus. Singing along, cheering, waving signs with pictures of women from all over the world holding their own sign with their vision for women by 2030.
People all over Times Square stopped to check us out.
We then set off on a tour around New York in the bus, dancing, cheering, singing – being the voice of women all over the world.
On the side of the bus, a continual loop played of the #WhatIReallyReallyWant video and the Global Girls video.
I had the chance to meet some truly incredible women, including Estée Lalonde, Mariéme from I Am the Code, the UNICEF Youth Delegates and, of course, Taylor and Larsen.
What an empowering experience! Such fun and great memories. Definitely not something I will be forgetting too soon!
